Greetings Hightower Trail Families:

Happy New Year!  I hope that everyone had a restful and safe holiday break!  We are rested and ready for the new semester.

As communicated by the district, we will continue to engage in remote learning until January 14th out of concern for the welfare of our teachers and students during this recent spike of COVID.  We thank you in advance, for your support and flexibility during this time.  We look forward to receiving our students back in the building Tuesday January 18, 2022, for in-person learning. Students will continue to have synchronous live lessons with their teachers. At this time, we will follow our normal school schedule beginning at 7:35 AM. We will have a common lunch break for everyone beginning at 11:00 AM and ending at 12:00 PM. Students will resume instruction at 12:00 PM via Teams. Parents of pre-K students will receive additional instructions by their respective pre-K teacher.

We will have a second device pick up, Friday, January 7, 2022, from 8:30 to 11:00 am.

You or a representative may pull around to our bus loading zone and retrieve the device from the side door of the cafeteria. If you send a representative, they will need to know your child's grade and teacher.

Please note that there will be no one on campus after Monday, January 3rd until January 10th. Any additional information will be shared via email, Remind or School Messenger.  You may also visit our website at or the Rockdale County Public Schools website.

As I learn anything additional, I will certainly let you know.  Let me reiterate that it is our plan to see your students for in-person learning TUESDAY January 18th.  Please note, however, we are still on vacation today.  There is no one at the school to receive calls.

Thank you for your support and as always, thank you for helping us to make HTE a GREAT place to be.  Happy New Year!  Be safe!

All the best,

Principal Toi Sampson

Welcome Back Trailblazers!

Welcome letter from Mrs. Sampson:

Greetings Families and Community Members:

Welcome to an awesome new year at Hightower Trail Elementary School. I am so honored to serve as your Principal for the 2021- 2022 school year.

Hightower Trail Elementary School is an outstanding school, and we pride ourselves in having a “Culture of Excellence.”  We believe that learning experiences for children should be as unique as the individual, and it is our responsibility to provide “World - Class” instruction and meet the needs of every student.

As we all return to campus this year, please know that we have taken every precaution to ensure your child’s health and safety.  At this time our Superintendent has remained firm on his decision that mask will remain mandatory on busses and while on campus.  We have hand washing and social distancing protocols in place to assist with mitigation efforts.  While we have seen tremendous improvements and are thankful for vaccines available, we acknowledge that we are still battling the COVID-19 pandemic and we must remain vigilant if we want to continue to keep our children and staff members safe.

We welcome our parents as partners in this educational process. We look forward to your participation in school events, active engagement, and support with at - home activities and having important discussions with students regarding work habits and school expectations.

This year we welcome a few new faces to the tribe. We are excited to have Mrs. Victoria Jefferson in the front office, Ms. Chavous in Kindergarten, Ms. Nieto in 2nd grade, Ms. Weaver in 4th grade and Mr. Lively in 5th grade. Ms. Gee, our former secretary, is now a teacher and will serve Pre-K. We know that these teachers will bring their extraordinary talents to the classroom and enhance the lives of our students.

Prior to the pandemic, we had tremendous success with World Class Wednesday. On these days students wore uniform polo shirts and khaki bottoms. Based upon the response from parents and students, we are extending uniform attire days to Monday through Wednesday. Students may wear a red or goldenrod colored polo shirt with the khaki bottoms. Thursdays and Fridays students may dress in school appropriate attire with some Fridays reserved as spirit days. Should you choose, uniform polos and bottoms may be purchased at Wal-Mart for an affordable cost or any other uniform store of your choice. As the school year begins, we will have polo-shirts embroidered with the Hightower Trail logo available for purchase.

Here at Hightower Trail Elementary School, we have high expectations of our teachers, staff, and students. We understand the importance of a firm educational foundation and its relation to future academic success. What we want you to know is that we cannot do this without your support, and we look forward to the journey that lies ahead of us.

Please feel free to contact me via telephone at 770- 388- 0751 or email

All the best,

Toi L. Sampson, Ed.S.
