A Message from your School Counselor!

Greetings parents, students, and staff! My name is Ms. Manuel, and I am excited to serve as the School Counselor at Hightower Trail! As your School Counselor, I would like to provide you with some information about how I can help families and students succeed.

What does a School Counselor do?

Classroom Counseling Curriculum- I teach classroom lessons to all students on topics such as social/emotional, academic, and career needs.

Individual Student Planning- I will assist students with goal formation/planning (behavioral, academic, social and emotional.)

Responsive Services- I will meet with students about their immediate needs: counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, referral, and peer mediation.

System Support- I help with school wide program planning and implementation (PBIS), consulting with other professionals, and coordination of various supports for students and families.

Group Counseling Throughout the school year, small group (4-6 students) counseling sessions will occur with students.  The groups sessions will focus on topics such as grief, family transitions, social skills, conflict resolution, and academics.

As the School Counselor, I help students:

  • Understand to respect others and appreciate diversity

  • Develop effective communication skills to build and maintain healthy friendships

  • Develop effective problem solving skills that will help students to make good decisions and resolve conflict

As the School Counselor, my aim is to:

  • Work with students individually and in small groups
